Christian Unity Baptist Church

Prison Ministry

Overview

The primary purpose of our Prison Ministry it to improve Christian satisfaction by; assisting and aid the transformation of the participating ex-offender and soon-to-be released inmates. We have educated and trained several ministries with supporting their mission to help inmates to achieve a better lifestyle. It is goal to inspire prisoner and ex- offenders, through the word of God, to develop an alternative lifestyle free of crime and vices. It’s the belief of this ministry that with direct, active community involvement and with guidance from the Gospel, soon-to be released prisoner will no longer need to be a part of the disturbingly high recidivism rate of Prison system.

Mission

It is our mission to touch the lives of those incarcerated, to restore hope through the love of Jesus Christ for closer and personal relationship. It is also our mission to present salvation through faith, a clear understanding of the Gospel and to encourage them to lead spiritual and productive lives.

Vision

Our vision for the future is to continue expanding the ministry and reaching the lost throughout Mississippi Jails, Prisons and Youth Detention Centers.

Guiding Scripture

Psalms 142:7

Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me. \

Matthew 25:36

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

The Opportunity

This ministry believes that through guidance and inspiration from the Gospel of Jesus, anyone can gain redemption and salvation. With the help our staff and community, ex-offenders and soon to be released inmates who desire to participate in our program are offered a very real and meaningful opportunity to make a positive and substantial lifestyle change. This change focuses on replacing vices with fellowship taking things with sharing and giving; being a parasite in the community to being part of a positive impact in the community. As inmates are released they frequently face the problem of finding work, housing and meaningful relationships and many times revert back to prior habits such as theft, drug use and selling. Statistics show that in Mississippi, 30% of inmates will return to prison within the first year of freedom. Part of the vision is to assist with housing, guidance and support in order to aid them in returning to society and living out the Christian life with joy, fulfillment and give them a sense of hope and purpose.

The Solution

Our goal is to meet some of the need of soon-to-be released convicts in areas, such as housing, job preparations; finding and keeping a job, instilling a sense of worth and self- esteem; and helping them realize the wealth of wisdom and knowledge available in the Bible to help them cope with their reintegrating into their communities.
